The Foundation and the Academy recognized the researchers’ work on organic synthesis and quantum mechanical calculations of dyes. Based on complementary skills in organic synthesis and computational chemistry, Jacquemin and Gryko’s collaboration resulted in the development of high-performance fluorescent dyes. Their research made significant advances in the field of luminescent materials, helping to discover new aromatic compounds and predict their photophysical properties even before synthesis. The potential applications of the new dyes are numerous and may include low-bandgap copolymers, organic transistors, solar cells, near-infrared light-emitting diodes, and many more. The Award recipients next research goal is to achieve 20% efficient emission in the near-infrared.
